Visiting The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY

The National Quilt Museum!

On a cross country trip from Florida to Colorado we passed by Paducah, KY. It went by virtually unnoticed until I saw a billboard for the National Quilt Museum. My daughter was driving, and we're reaching that age where she is sometimes more the mom and I'm more the child. Such was the case that day. She didn't want to stop, and I was okay with that. But then we passed a second sign just before the next exit. She swerved down the exit ramp and my heart soared.

I'm not a quilter, but getting off the highway and seeing some beautiful handicrafts sounded like a great idea.

At first the building seemed kind of plain because we entered from the back. And when we went in they informed us that the quilts were new; present day. Being a lover of all things vintage, I was disappointed. I expected to see some historic Appalachian history. But I decided to pay the admission and go anyway. The quilts would be pretty.

We parked in the back and this is the humble view from there.

Pretty doesn't even begin to describe these quilts. Mind-blowing, really. I had no idea what could be done with fabric, a needle and thread. Here are just a few examples:

If you're ever in the area of Paducah, Kentucky, this is a wonderful place to visit. I was skeptical when I found out that they only had modern quilts, but I was totally blown away by how amazing these quilts were. You won't regret visiting here!
