When I saw The Paper Players One-Layer Card Challenge, I knew it was time. I combined that with the Cardz 4 Guyz Challenge, which is plaid or checks. I'm also entering thiso over at The Neglected Stuff Challenge because I don't know when I last used this Deep Red Vintage Woody stamp, if ever! It has been highly neglected for years.
I have to credit the current Stampin' Up! catalog with the idea for this one. On page 114, there is a treat box made with acetate. They took alcohol markers and made a plaid design on it. It's really cute, and that's where I got the idea to make the plaid on a one-layer card.
Here are a few pictures of how I did this:
This was a little harder than I anticipated, but I guess that's why it's called a challenge! I'm pleased with the card and I'm really happy that we have something to send to our friend on his birthday.
Here's my complete supply list for this one:
- 110# White Card Stock (Michaels)
- Avery Removable ID Labels
- Deep Red Vintage Woody Stamp
- Verve Sentiment
- Stampin' Up! Be The Star Stamps
- SU! Art Deco Label Dies
- Copic Markers
- Memento Paris Dusk Ink
- Various Copic Markers
Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a blessed day!
Barb... love the story behind this card. What a motivation and congrats to you hubby for stepping up. I would never have thought to stick something between the layers... what about shakers? Must drive the jail personnel crazy. I love the tip on the Avery removable labels. I need more masking paper but I think I will give Avery a try. Thank you. Also your plaid is wonderful... and brilliant to create the solid over the plaid. You have such amazing technique. I can't thank you enough for sharing with the Paper Players this week.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, I definitely don't think a shaker card would make it through the process! Too funny! I think you'll really like the Avery labels. Since they're large, at least 8 x 10 inches they can be used for a lot of different masking. Plus you can cut them into strips too. I have to admit I don't use them as much as I should, but even after sitting for years they still work great. Thanks so much for all your kind words! :)
Deletethank you for sharing this wonderful plaid/check pattern with us at C4Guyz, we look forward to many awesome creation from you in the near future
ReplyDeleteThank you Pamela! It's always a fun challenge at C4G! :)
DeleteBarb, I can't remember when I last made a one layer card. My style is more of a fussy-cut, layer and embellish as mush as the card will hold!! That said, this card is stellar, and inspires me to try making a one layer card in the near future. TFS! Kathy aka myasperations
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kathy! I really don't like making one layer cards, as my style is kind of fussy too. For me, that's the fun in card making! Thanks so much for stopping by and for all your kind words! :)
DeleteWhat a wonderful back story to this card - and a great outcome also!! Well done Barb!
